Environmental Benefits of Tire Recycling
Recycling rubber tires means millions of used tires no longer end up in the rivers and seas of the city, nor are they illegally dumped in abandoned lots, along roadsides, and in sensitive habitats. Instead, all these tires should be recycled and reused annually. Here are the reasons and benefits for doing so:
Creates new beneficial products: Recycled tires are transformed into many useful products. A common product from recycled tires is tire-derived fuel, which is more energy-efficient than regular coal fuel and emits fewer harmful emissions.
Prevents the spread of diseases: Discarded old tires serve as homes for disease-carrying rodents and collect stagnant water that provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which also transmit deadly diseases. Dispose of tire waste and help prevent the spread of diseases.
Recycling saves significant amounts of energy, ultimately reducing greenhouse gas emissions. For instance, recycling four tires reduces CO2 by approximately 323 pounds, equivalent to 18 gallons of gasoline.”
